Gabby Nelson is a 6’0” senior forward at Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. She is a team captain and star player on a squad that has posted an 18-9 record on the season and is 7-1 in district. So far this season, she is averaging impressive numbers per game: 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks. Under the direction of Coach Amy Ingram, the Birdville Lady Hawks have reached new heights this season as they fight for a District Championship. Heading down the stretch, they will be battling Grapevine High School for the crown; this team also has high hopes of getting their first playoff win in school history.
Gabby has competed the last two summers in the Texas Elite Adidas program for Head Coach John Hampton. She had a defining summer in 2014 helping lead the team to a 51-13 record. Gabby’s versatile skills permit her to play the wing or post. Shooting a solid percentage from the 3-point range combined with her aggressive dribble penetration make her a major threat in the paint. She can get around defenders with a quick first step, or score over them with her high vertical. Gabby has worked hard to become one of the top players in the DFW Metroplex.
Gabby recently announced her commitment to play for Coach Chris Gobrecht and the Lady Bulldogs at Ivy League school, Yale University. She is currently third in her class academically and scored very high on college entrance exams. With her tremendous academic standing paving the way, Gabby hopes to make an immediate impact both on and off the court. Her friends will tell you that when she is not working on her game, she is doing homework and looking to improve her academic standing.
I have had the pleasure to work closely with Gabby the last two summers and watch her grow immensely as a player. As a mature, professional and natural-born leader, few players set the bar as high as Gabby Nelson. Texas Elite congratulates Gabby on her achievements in the classroom and on the court, and we look forward to watching as she develops her game at the collegiate level.
